Aswan International Women Film Festival to honour Inaam Mohamed Aly

The sixth edition of the Aswan International Women Film Festival (AIWFF), taking place between 23 to 28 February, will host a special honouring ceremony for renowned Egyptian director Inaam Mohamed Aly for her contribution to the feminist scene in Egyptian cinema.

“Inaam Mohamed Aly is one of the most important artists who tackled Egyptian women’s issues through films like ‘Asefa, Arfod Al-Talaq’, ‘Youmeyat Emra’a Asreya’ and ‘Sae’d El-Ahlam’, as well as being an artist who supports patriotic causes as she expressed in ‘Hekayat El-Gharib’ and ‘El-Tareeq Ela Eilat,” said the Azza Kamel, who leads the festival’s Board of Trustees, on Monday.

“She is also among the Egyptian drama icons tackling important feminist issues in successful works like ‘Heya Wal Mostaheel’, ‘Al-Hob W-Ashyaa Okhra’, ‘Um Kulthoum’, ‘Qassem Amin’, ‘Qessat Al-Ams’ and ‘Dameer Abla Hekmat’,” Kamel added.

The multi-awarded director is the second revealed honouree of the sixth edition, after experienced actress Sawsan Badr was unveiled earlier.

Under President Mohamed Abdel-Khalek and Director Hassan Abou El-Ela, the AIWFF’s six edition is taking place in the great ancient city of Aswan, under the sponsorship of a number of local and international authorities, including the culture and tourism ministries and the European Union.

The AIWFF is dedicated to highlighting women’s issues and their rights to prove their fullest potentials, where cinematographers representing different countries renew their dialogue about the important role of women in society.
