The Pharaohs will be facing the Ivorians on Wednesday in the round of 16 of the prestigious continental tournament.

“Thank God, as all our players tested negative for the coronavirus ahead of facing Egypt. Our target now is to go for the farthest point in the AFCON, as our team has great abilities,” Beaumelle said in the pre-match press conference on Tuesday.

“Our players have gained much confidence in playing offensively, and as I said before, the game with Egypt will be a tactical one and we have already started implementing a plan to stop the danger our opponent poses,” the Elephants’ coach added.

Seven-time African Champions Egypt opened their AFCON campaign by losing 0-1 to Nigeria before beating their Group D opponents Guinea Bissau and Sudan 1-0 in each game to book a place in the AFCON’s last 16.

Cote d’Ivoire opened their AFCON campaign by beating Equatorial Guinea 1-0 before being held to a 2-2 draw with Sierra Leone and beating Algeria 3-1 in the final game of the Group E games to advance to the last 16.
