Egyptian fencers won the junior team gold medal at the Sabre World Cup in Bahrain

The four-man team, comprising Mohamed Al-Sayed, Mohamed Yassin, Mahmoud Al-Sayed and Mohamed Gaber, beat France 45-34 in the finals held from 22-23 January in Manama, reports Inas Mazhar.

The day before, Yassin won the gold medal in the individual competition after beating his French counterpart 13-12. With the victory, Yassin jumped to the top of the world junior rankings, followed by teammate Mohamed Al-Sayed.

Egypt beat Kuwait in the quarter-finals 45-25 before defeating Estonia 45-30 in the semi-final. The team is coached by Sayed Sami.

France, Estonia, Switzerland, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, the Emirates and Egypt participated in the tournament.

Egypt is to host the World Fencing Cup in February.
