Egypt reports another record high 1,985 coronavirus cases for third day in a row

Egypt reported 1,985 new coronavirus cases on Thursday, breaking the country's record of 1,910 cases registered a day earlier.

The Ministry of Health and Population had reported in its daily update a record 1,910 new coronavirus cases on Wednesday after reporting a record 1,809 new cases on Tuesday.

Thursday's figures bring the tally of infections officially reported nationwide since the outbreak of the pandemic in February 2020  to 417,453.

The health ministry also reported 36 new deaths related to Covid-19 complications nationwide in the past 24 hours, bringing the total number of deaths from the virus to 22,496.

The ministry added in its daily report that 1,991 patients have been discharged from hospitals after recovering from the virus, bringing the total number of recoveries 351,418.

The ministry also revealed that Egypt has administrated a total of 37.1 million first vaccine doses and 25.5 million second vaccine doses.

A total of 568,000 booster shots have been administrated in recent weeks, bringing the total number of coronavirus vaccines administrated to the population since the start of the mass vaccination campaign in January 2021 to 63.2 million jabs.

In recent weeks, Egypt has implemented new coronavirus-related restrictions at airports, seaports, and land crossings to contain the spread of the Omicron variant.
