The record seven-time African champions lost to Senegal 4-2 in the shootout following a 0-0 draw after producing a spirited display, although they were lucky not to concede on several occasions. 

"The players suffer from a huge fatigue," former defender Wael Gomaa, a three-time Nations Cup winner, told beIN Sports after the final.

 "The Players did their best but I believe that our performance would have been better had we been in our normal physical form.

"We played 120 minutes in four games in a row against tough opponents. It was very difficult for the team."

Gomaa said he is optimistic over Egypt's chances to reach the World Cup as they clash again with Senegal in a decisive two-legged qualifying playoff next month. 

"We showed that we are capable of beating Senegal and reaching the World Cup. We gained a big experience in this tournament that will help us in the World Cup play offs," he added.
