Egypt reports 2,131 new coronavirus infections, 57 deaths on Sunday
Continuing a steady decline of daily cases in the past several days, Egypt's Ministry of Health and Population reported on Sunday 2,131 new coronavirus infections, bringing the total cases since the outbreak began in February 2020 to 454,952.
The ministry also recorded 57 COVID-19 fatalities, bringing the total tally of deaths to 23,349.
The statement added that the total number of recoveries is 387,700 after 2,310 patients have been discharged in the past 24 hours.
Egypt has obtained a total of 140.5 million vaccine doses, from which 66.6 million have been consumed so far, Khaled Abdel-Ghaffar, the acting health minister, said at a weekly cabinet meeting last Thursday.
The country currently has 29 million fully vaccinated citizens, according to the health ministry’s daily statistics.
As many as 749,799 booster shots have been administered, the ministry said.
This comes as part of Egypt’s plans to vaccinate 70 percent of its 102 million population by the second half of 2022.
