All-female jury to judge main competition of Aswan Int’l Women Film Festival

The international competition for feature films in the sixth edition of the Aswan International Women Film Festival (AIWFF), taking place between 23 and 28 February, will be judged by an all-female jury headed by Romanian actress Cristina Flutur.

The jury members are Egyptian actress Basma, Nigerian director and producer Rahmatou Keita, German critic and programmer Ingrid Beerbaum and French actress and director Marilyne Canto.

Under President Mohamed Abdel-Khalek and Director Hassan Abou El-Ela, the AIWFF’s six edition is taking place in the great ancient city of Aswan, under the sponsorship of a number of local and international authorities, including the culture and tourism ministries and the European Union.

Many honourees have been announced for the upcoming edition for their contribution to feminist causes, including renowned Egyptian director Inaam Mohamed Aly, multi-award-winning French actress Marilyne Canto, and Somali activist Hibaaq Osman.

The festival is holding a number of workshops including a currently ongoing Directing Techniques Workshop funded by the European Union in Egypt and under the supervision of independent filmmakers Marihan Eldawy and Menna Aly.

The AIWFF is dedicated to highlighting women’s issues and their rights to prove their fullest potentials, where cinematographers representing different countries renew their dialogue about the important role of women in society.
