"Egypt is following with deep concern the successive developments regarding the situation in Ukraine, and affirms the importance of upholding dialogue and diplomatic solutions, as well as endeavours that would hasten the political settlement of the crisis," the ministry said.
Such desired political settlement, the statement said, would preserve international security and stability, and ensure that the situation does not escalate or deteriorate.
It, moreover, will help avoid aggravating humanitarian and economic conditions, with their impacts on the region and worldwide, the ministry noted.
The statement comes a few hours after Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and its developments that unfolded earlier on Thursday.
In a separate statement, the ministry said the Egyptian embassy in Kiev was following closely the latest developments to the Egyptian community currently in Ukraine and shared the mobile numbers of diplomats in the embassy of Egypt to Kiev, including the mobile number of Ambassador Ayman El-Gamal (+380932165877).
Another two numbers are : +380732009984 and +380634779436.
Around 6,000 Egyptians live in Ukraine, with the majority being students, Khaled Mohamed, the head of the Youth Committee of the Egyptian Community in Ukraine, said in a phone interview with TEN TV satellite channel on Wednesday.
Earlier on Thursday, the Egyptian embassy in Kiev urged the Egyptian nationals living in Ukraine to remain at home and to takes measures to ensure their safety.
The Egyptian authorities are in close contact with their Ukrainian counterparts to ensure the safety of Egyptian nationals living in Ukraine, urging expats to follow instructions from the Ukrainian government until further notice, the embassy said in a statement.
The embassy will provide the Egyptian community in Ukraine with any additional instructions through its Facebook page, read the statement
