Over a phone call, the two leaders addressed a number of issues related to bilateral cooperation in various sectors, a statement by Presidential Spokesman Bassam Rady noted.
The Egyptian president hailed the ongoing development in Egyptian-Jordanian relations as well as the coordination between the two countries toward the various regional and international issues, praising the positive outcome of the Egyptian-Jordanian Joint Higher Committee, the statement said.
From his side, King Abdullah expressed his aspirations to further push forward cooperation between the two countries, the Egyptian presidency added.
Egyptian Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly and his Jordanian counterpart, Bisher Al-Khasawneh, chaired the 30th edition of the joint committee meeting on 20 February.
During the meeting, the premiers oversaw the signing of a number of cooperation programs and protocols in the fields of higher education, scientific research, agricultural quarantine, logistics and youth affairs.
Aside from the committee meetings, Egypt and Jordan are coordinating work on a number of regional and international, chief among which are attempts to revive the Middle East peace process and the talks between Palestine and Israel.
Both Egypt and Jordan are members of the quartet committee, along with France and Germany, that aims to revive the talks between Palestine and Israel since their suspension in April 20214.
Last week, Minister of Petroleum Tarek El-Mollah said during the Sixth Gas Exporting Countries Forum (GECF) summit in Doha that Egypt will start exporting natural gas to Lebanon through Jordan and Syria in the coming few weeks as it works on resolving technical problems in the pipeline that transits Syria and Lebanon.
In September 2021, the energy ministers of Egypt, Jordan, Syria and Lebanon agreed to supply Lebanon with Egyptian natural gas to generate electricity in an attempt to end the country’s ongoing energy crisis.
