Egypt’s processed food exports to Russia reached $64 million in 2021, up from $40 million in 2020 and $17 million in 2014, recording a 61 percent and 287 percent increase, respectively, the Egyptian Food Export Council said in a statement on Thursday. 

Russia ranked 21st in the list of countries importing Egyptian processed foods in 2021, making up 1.6 percent of the total Egyptian processed food exports that reached $4.1 billion in 2021.

Egyptian food exports to Russia in 2021 represented 13 percent of the total Egyptian non-oil exports to Russia in the same year, amounting to $484 million, read the statement.

From 2014 to 2021, Egypt exported $267 million-worth of processed food to Russia.

Frozen strawberries came on top of the list of Egyptian processed food commodities exported to Russia in 2021, at $24 million, representing 38 percent of the total exports.

Other exported food commodities include frozen vegetables, medicinal and aromatic plants, white cheese, pickled vegetables, sweet biscuits, and crisp bread.

Egypt’s imports from Russia in 2020 amounted to $2.5 billion. Wheat came in first with a value of $1.6 billion, or 64 percent of Egypt’s total imports from Russia.

Egypt’s exports to Ukraine

Egypt’s processed food exports to Ukraine in 2021 recorded $3.3 million, rising by three percent on 2020 figures, the Food Export Council added.

Ukraine came in 81st in the markets importing Egyptian processed foods in 2021.

Egyptian food exports to Ukraine in 2021 represented three percent of the total Egyptian non-oil exports to Ukraine in the same year, with a value of $99 million.

Between 2014 and 2021, Egyptian exported processed food to Ukraine totalled $21 million.

Medicinal and aromatic plants were the most exported processed food commodities to Ukraine in 2021 with a value of $1.3 million, or 41 percent of the total exports.

Other commodities included pickled olives, frozen strawberries, canned and frozen vegetables, dried fruits, yeast, and pickled vegetables.

Egypt’s total imports from Ukraine in 2020 recorded $1.6 billion. Grains (wheat and corn) topped the list with $1.2 billion, or 75 percent of Egypt's total imports from Ukraine.
