The meeting saw the signing of a number of memoranda of understanding (MoUs) in various fields, including agriculture, sports, and education.

The Tajik president’s visit coincides with the 30th anniversary of Egypt's recognition of the independent Republic of Tajikistan. 

Egypt was the first Arab country to open an embassy for Tajikistan and has been boosting cooperation in several fields ever since.  

During a joint press conference, El-Sisi said he tackled with his Tajik counterpart future cooperation in the irrigation, mining, agriculture, tourism, health, pharmaceutical manufacturing, hydroelectric energy domains, as well as making the best use of available water resources.

“We also agreed to strengthen security coordination and to exchange information and experience in the fields of combating terrorism and organised crime,” El-Sisi said.

Five MoUs were signed on Thursday between the two countries by the ministers of agriculture, youth and sports, and higher education and scientific research, and two with the foreign ministry.

El-Sisi noted that the two countries’ foreign ministries conferred on following up on the outcomes of the second session of the joint economic, scientific and technical cooperation committee that was held in Cairo in November 2019.

The two leaders also discussed Egypt's preparations for UN Climate Change Conference COP27, which Egypt will host in the Red Sea resort city of Sharm El-Sheikh in November, reported the state-owned news agency MENA.

“We have stressed that fruitful bilateral constructive cooperation will serve the long-term interests of both countries,” said the Tajik president.

“We have expressed our confidence that the agreements reached today will essentially boost relations in the commercial, economic, scientific, technical, humanitarian, and cultural spheres,” he concluded.
