"Today, the UK announces a change in our Travel Advice for Egypt. We no longer advise against all but essential travel to the southern part of South Sinai governorate and Faiyum governorate," the embassy said.

“This means it’s now easier than ever for the hundreds of thousands of Brits who visit Egypt every year to discover more of this amazing country,” the embassy said on its official Facebook page.

Egypt’s Ambassador to the UK Sherif Kamel expressed his appreciation for the British government’s decision to adjust the travel classifications.

According to a statement issued on Thursday by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, ambassador Kamel said that this decision reflects the continuous progress in bilateral relations between Egypt and the UK in various fields.

Kamel added that this decision should contribute to strengthening the efforts of tourism companies in the British market to expand in tourist destinations in Egypt and restoring the UK as one of the main exporters of tourists in Egypt.

An estimated 476,000 British nationals visited Egypt in 2019, according to UK government figures.
