Abul Gheit made the comments during the session of the UNSC at the ministerial level to discuss boosting cooperation between the Arab League and the UNSC in maintaining international peace and security and promoting stability in the Arab region.

During the meeting, Abul Gheit said that the current crises in the region will not be solved by themselves, and that the region is still suffering from the consequences of the events of 2011, adding that Syria, Libya and Yemen are still suffering from conflicts.

Abul Gheit said he hopes the world powers will reach a solution to the crisis in Ukraine that serves the interests of all sides, and that the current situation will not affect the role of the UN in tackling other issues and crises, especially in the Arab region.

The meeting, in which UN Secretary-General António Guterres and a number of officials of the UNSC member states participated, comes at the initiative of the UAE as a current member of the UNSC.
