“An emotional reunion. I went to check on Mufasa’s [Akram Tawfik] rehabilitation progress at Aspire in Doha,” Mosimane wrote on his twitter account on Friday.
“It was great to see that he is recovering and will be back soon Inshallah,” the Ahly coach added.
The 24-year-old has been absent from the field since tearing his ACL during national team duty in the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) last January.
Tawfik returned to Cairo to start a recovery program after sustaining the injury during the 1-0 loss to Nigeria in the opening game of AFCON.
The Pharaohs reached the 2021 AFCON final game but they lost 2-4 on penalties to Senegal.
The 57-year-old Mosimane called-up Mohamed Hani to replace injured Tawfik in the Egyptian Premier League and CAF Champions League games.
Hani, 26, sustained a muscle injury in last week’s match against Al-Merrikh, leaving the Red Devils without their regular right backs. As a result, coach Mosimane visited Tawfik to check in on his rehabilitation progress at Aspire in Doha.
Ahly are in the driving seat of the Egyptian Premier League teams’ table with 28 points after playing 10 games so far this season, two points over runners-up Pyramids FC, who played one game more.
The Cairo giants are bidding to reach the quarterfinals of the CAF Champions League as they are second in Group A ranking with seven points, three points over Al Hilal of Sudan who placed third in the group’s ranking with only one game remaining to determine the qualified teams.
