Egypt s Minister of International Cooperation Rania Al-Mashat
Egypt is gearing up to host COP27 in the Red Sea resort city of Sharm El-Sheikh in November.
Al-Mashat’s participation in the World Government Summit (WGS2022) and MENA Climate Week (MENACW) in Dubai is also part of Egypt’s efforts to promote international relations ahead of the conference, the ministry added.
The minister is scheduled to meet Mariam Almheiri, Emirati minister of climate change and the environment, and Patricia Espinosa, executive secretary of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) to discuss the outcomes of COP26, held last year in Glasgow, and Egypt's upcoming presidency of the 27th session of the conference.
The three-day summit, taking place during the final days of Expo 2020 Dubai is in its seventh edition.
Egypt’s hosting of COP27 is an opportunity to involve the various segments of Egyptian society in the climate change issue, Egypt’s Minister of Environment Yasmine Fouad said during the launch of the first dialogue on climate change on Saturday.
The ministry is currently working to spread awareness about how to confront climate change nationwide, Fouad added.
Egypt is in talks with a host of international partners amid preparations for COP27, and has vowed to speak for Africa's aspirations when addressing climate change.
COP27 will support efforts to reduce carbon emissions and provide funding for developing countries to help them deal with the repercussions of climate change.
