Egypt coach Carlos Queiroz has affirmed the readiness of his players for the game against Senegal in the second leg of the 2022 Africa World Cup qualifiers on Tuesday, saying “we have talented players who can create magic” during the match.

“We respect Senegal as they have brilliant players with a great coach, but they won’t dominate the ball position for 100 percent of the time. We know them very well,” Queiroz told the pre-match news conference on Monday.

The Teranga Lions dominated possession in Cairo, but the Pharaohs were able to claim a 1-0 home victory on Friday.

Egypt needs only a draw on Tuesday in the return leg – which will be held at Stade Olympique de Diamniadio in Dakar – to book the flight to the World Cup in Qatar.

“All the players are ready for the game against Senegal as we have no injuries. I am confident that we will produce a special performance tomorrow against Senegal as we have talented players who have humility and discipline,” the Portuguese tactician added.

“My philosophy is that we are not playing against Senegal, Cameron, Nigeria or Ivory Coast, we play every game against Egypt, we are playing against ourselves. So, if we played well in the last game, we have to play better in the next game,” he concluded.

The Pharaohs and Lions of Teranga are both bidding to secure a place in the 2022 FIFA World Cup that will take place in Qatar from 21 November to 18 December, as both teams eye a second successive World Cup appearance.

Senegal reached the FIFA World Cup twice in 2002 and 2018, while Egypt made it to the prestigious tournament three times in 1934, 1990, and 2018.
