According to local media, CAS said in its ruling that Kahraba has to pay Zamalek $2 million "as compensation for breach of contract without just cause plus 5% interest p.a. on said amount as from 20 June 2019 until the date of effective payment."
Kahraba, who now plays on loan at Turkey's Hatayspor from Egypt's Ahly, was originally handed the fine by FIFA's Dispute Resolution Chamber in August 2020, almost a year after he abruptly left Zamalek to join Portuguese side Aves.
He had his appeal in a protracted legal wrangle dismissed by CAS.
Nasr Azzam, a sports lawyer who is also a legal adviser of Zamalek, said the ruling cannot be appealed further and that both Kahraba and Aves risk FIFA sanctions should they fail to pay the fine. Kahraba could face up to a one-year ban, he added.
Kahraba's tenure at Aves was short-lived, lasting only six months as he then made a surprise move to Zamalek's Cairo nemesis Ahly. Zamalek accused of Ahly or orchestrating Kahraba's move to Aves so they can snap him up.
The 27-year-old's near two-year stint with Ahly was marred by several off-pitch problems.
In March last year, he was handed a one-month suspension by the club for protesting a decision by coach Pitso Mosimane to start him on the bench in an Egyptian Premier League game.
He was also banned for 10 matches by the Egyptian Football Association (EFA) in February 2020 after being involved in an altercation with several Zamalek players during a bad-tempered Egyptian Super Cup game that took place in the United Arab Emirates.
And in September of the same year, Kahraba was handed an EGP 1 million fine ($63,800) by Ahly following a training ground bust-up with the team's goalkeeper Mohamed El-Shennawi.
Kahraba scored 17 goals and provided nine assists in 62 appearances with Ahly, winning with the club an Egyptian Premier League title, an Egypt Cup and two back-to-back African Champions League crowns.
He played a bit-part role this term after suffering a dip in form before Hatayspor signed him on a six-month loan deal last January with an option to make the move permanent at the end of the season.
