Egyptian Minister of Foreign affairs Sameh Shoukry
The Egyptian foreign minister is set to hold meetings with Russian Minister of Foreign Affairs Sergey Lavrov in the Russian capital on Monday and then with Ukrainian FM Dmytro Kuleba in the polish capital of Warsaw on Tuesday to seek a diplomatic solution to end the war.
The AL Ukraine crisis liaison group, which was formed during the 157th session of the Council of the AL in March, includes representatives from Egypt, Jordan, Algeria, Iraq, Sudan, and the UAE - a current meber of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC).
On Saturday, the crisis group held a coordination meeting on Saturday ahead of the tour via video conferencing, which was attended by Shoukry.
The Arab league has expressed deep concern over developments in Ukraine, including the military and humanitarian consequences.
In a UNSC session held on 23 March, AL Secretary-General Ahmed Abul-Gheit urged world powers to reach a solution to the crisis in Ukraine that serves the interests of all sides.
Abul-Gheit also said he hopes the current situation will not affect the role of the UN in tackling other issues and crises, especially in the Arab region.
The Russian-Ukrainian conflict has had major impacts on the whole world, including Arab countries, disrupting supply chains of wheat from Black Sea ports to the Middle East and North Africa and skyrocketing the prices of basic food commodities.
