Wed 13, 8- 9.15pm (GMT+2), Online event: “World of Islam: The Hajj and Sacred Spaces”, an ARIC seminar series on the World of Islam, consisting of seven seminars from scholars in North America, Europe, and at AUC. Each presenter will speak on one of seven regions of the Islamic world, showcasing its diversity and difference. Regions include Egypt, Hindustan, Sham, Damascus, West Africa, Al-Andalus, and Khurasan. The seminar series is convened by Ahmad Khan, Assistant Professor of Islamic Studies in the AUC’s department of Arab and Islamic Civilizations (ARIC), and is sponsored by the Winder Fund.

Italian Cultural Institute
Italy celebrated the 700th anniversary of the passing of Dante Alighieri in 2021. The Italian Institute continues to post videos in Arabic with translations from Dante Alighieri’s masterpiece The Divine Comedy to bring the Arab-speaking public closer to the work of the supreme poet. Videos are directed by Giabluca Barbadori, with the special participation of Ashraf Farouk, Amir Salaheddin, Sherine Hegazy, and Sara El-Mokadem.

Fri 15, 9 - 11pm: “Fouad Haddad Tribute”, in cooperation with the AUC student club Avant-Garde, influential poet Fouad Haddad, whose song lyrics and writings are an integral part of 20th century Egyptian memory and experience, will be celebrated via a night of reflection, poetry recital, singing and music, featuring Haddad’s son Amin, analyst Nabil Abdel-Fattah, poetry expert Reem Hatem, and singer and oud player Ahmed Ismail.
