Fri 8, 9.30pm: Nancy Mounir’s Nozhet El Nofous is a transcendent audiovisual exploration of musical freedom through the lens of century-old archival recordings. The concert features Youssra El-Hawary (accordion), Nadia Safwat (trumpet), Ahmed Amin (double bass), Mounir Maher (piano), Felipe Simonsen (trombone) and Nancy Mounir (violin & theremin) featuring Mounira El Mahdeya, Hayat Sabry, Fatma Serry, Saleh Abdel Hay, and Abdel Latif El Banna.

Sat 9, 9-11pm: The wonderful musicians of Makan namely Mazaher ensemble featuring Umm Sameh, Umm Hassan and Nour Al-Sabah will perform Zar music and songs that they have been recreating for local and global audiences for years. On this night, they will fill the garden with spiritual chants and much more. A screening of the short film Mazaher Tales about the troupe’s history will also be taking place in parallel in Ewart Memorial Hall (Free admission; open to the public. Register to guarantee a seat).

Wed 13, 8.30-10.30pm: “Flute and Quartet Obélisque: Classical Masterpieces” concert featuring flautist Huda Abdel-Azim. (Due to Covid 19, seats are limited, and entrance is based on first-come, first-served. Proof of vaccination is a must upon entry).

Thurs 7, 9-10.30pm (free entrance): The Institute’s Ramadan Nights opens this year the programme in Alexandria with the Khaltabeta group. The group will perform songs from the rich and vast classical Arab music repertoire, between tradition and modernity.

Thurs 14, 9-10.30pm (free entrance): Tablet El Set group is made up of female percussionists and singers. They use percussion instruments such as tambourine and darbouka to accompany their Egyptian melodies.
