Since the wee hours of the day, millions of Muslims were present at hundreds of outdoor spaces attached to large mosques nationwide to partake in the Eid El-Fitr prayers after Egyptian authorities ended a ban on outdoor Eid prayers, which had been in place since the start of the coronavirus pandemic in 2020.

Following the end of the prayers, balloons and smiles of children dominated the scene everywhere countrywide.

Natural venues across the country — including the Giza Zoo, Orman Botanical Garden, and Cairo’s Aquarium Grotto Garden — witnessed a large turnout of visitors during the first hours of the day.

The Giza Zoo — one of Egypt’s most popular family attractions — received over 40,000 visitors only in the first hours, according to Mohamed Ragai — head of the central department of the country’s zoos.

Police personnel were stationed at major squares and streets as part of the Ministry of Interior’s plan to intensify security measures throughout the festivities to ensure the safety of the public.

Moreover, some members of the police force distributed roses and gifts to pedestrians and drivers nationwide in celebration of the feast and to foster trust and understanding between the nation’s people and its first line of defence.

Furthermore, Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi attended a celebration on Sunday with the families of the martyrs of the Armed Forces and the police force as well as injured men in uniform at Cairo’s El-Manara International Conference Centre.
