According to the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Shoukry discussed a number of issues with Petteri Taalas, secretary general of the organisation.

Chief among the issues was cooperation between the two parties during the upcoming COP27, which Egypt is set to host in the Red Sea resort city of Sharm El-Sheikh in November.

The two officials discussed highlighting linkages between water and climate issues, in the context of the global momentum to address adaptation to climate change impacts, including water scarcity.

The WMO is a UN agency responsible for promoting international cooperation concerning the Earth’s atmosphere, its interaction with the land and oceans, the weather and climate it produces and the distribution of water resources.
