During the press conference following his talks with FM Shoukry, FM Bourita offered his condolences over the deaths of 11 Egyptian military personnel in a terrorist attack in Sinai on Saturday.

“We assert the necessity of coordination and communication with Egypt considering the latest regional and international developments,” he added.

Bourita also stressed that the two countries share identical viewpoints on various issues.

For his part, Shoukry affirmed Egypt’s determination to revitalise mechanisms of political consultation, the joint economic committee, and the businessmen’s forum, which he said will strengthen Egypt-Morocco relations.

The Egyptian minister added that he agreed with his Moroccan counterpart on promoting cultural relations within a specific timeframe. Shoukry noted that today’s meeting was an opportunity to discuss all issues of mutual interest, including those related to the African continent, the Sahel and Sahara region, the latest developments in Libya, the Palestinian issue, and the fight against terrorism.

Shoukry and Bourita also inaugurated on Monday in Rabat the new Egyptian embassy in Morocco.

Morocco is set to host the ministerial meeting of the 84-member Global Coalition to Defeat ISIS, of which Egypt is a part, for the first time in Africa on 11 May in Marrakech.

More than 50 ministers will participate in the meeting, which is co-chaired by Morocco and the US, the Moroccan foreign ministry said on Monday.
