Preview: Zamalek look to maintain winning run against Enppi in Egyptian league

Ahram Online , Monday 9 May 2022

Zamalek will be looking to claim their fourth straight win in the Egyptian league on Tuesday when they take on Enppi to cement their position at the top of the league table, and to keep more pressure on archrivals Ahly in the title race.

The White Knights are leading the table with 41 points, six points ahead of second-placed Pyramids FC, who still have one match on hand.

They will also be eager to make life difficult for Ahly when the Red Devils return to domestic action, as they have several rescheduled games awaiting them after finishing their African duty.

Ahly are now third on the league table with 33 points, eight points behind Zamalek, who played three matches more, and they have the chance to go one point clear if they manage to win their rescheduled three games.

Zamalek coach Jesualdo Ferreira announced on Monday his list for the game, led by in-form winger Ahmed ‘Zizo’ Sayed, who is the team’s best performer this season with 11 goals that put him at the top of the league’s top scorer chart.

The international winger scored the winner in his side’s 2-1 narrow win over Eastern Company earlier this week.

He also found the net in Zamalek’s two previous victories over Ittihad of Alexandria and Gouna.

The White Knights will miss versatile midfielder Emam Ashour due to automatic suspension after being booked against Eastern Company, but they will regain the efforts of forward Youssef ‘Obama’ Ibrahim after he served a one match ban.

On the other hand, Enppi, who lie ninth on the league table with 20 points, will be looking to earn a positive result to improve their position on the table.

Coach Helmi Toulan will depend on the efforts of the team’s Nigerian striker John Ebuka, who produced many strong displays with the petroleum side this season with his six goals.

Ebuka and international keeper Mahmoud Gad feature among Zamalek’s targets for next season, as the White Knights opened talks concerning a possible move for the two players in the summer.

Toulan said the game will be tough for both sides, warning his players of Zamalek duo Ahmed ‘Zizo’ Sayed and Moroccan winger Ashraf Bencherki, as he believes that the duo is the main source of danger in the Zamalek squad.
