Mohamed bin Zayed elected President of the United Arab Emirates

UAE's Federal Supreme Council has elected Abu Dhabi's Crown Prince Mohamed bin Zayed as the next President of United Arab Emirates.

UAE's Federal Supreme Council has unanimously elected on Saturday, Abu Dhabi's Crown Prince Mohamed bin Zayed as the next President of United Arab Emirates, following the passing of the UAE president Khalifa bin Zayed on Friday

Mohamed bin Zayed, is the third president of the UAE. He has been the crown prince of Abu Dhabi since 2004.

He is the third son of Sheikh Zayed (1918 - 2004), the founder of the country and the half brother of the late Sheikh Khalifa.

The UAE announced on Thursday that Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, died at the age of 73. He has been suffering with illness since 2014, and retreated from public events since then.

The Federal Supreme Council, is comprised of the ruler of the 7 emirates that form the union. The UAE President is elected for a 5 year term that can be renewed.

The Council held a meeting today at Al Mushrif Palace in Abu Dhabi, chaired by Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai.

Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid, congratulated bin Zayed, on twitter, pledging allegiance to him.
