The CAF chose the Moroccan venue after the first leg semifinal of the continental tournament, resulting in Ahly complaining about the final being hosted in a country that has a team in the semis.

Earlier this week, the Reds confirmed that the team will take part in the Champions League final against Wydad Casablanca of Morocco despite the ongoing row concerning the venue.

Despite being in dispute with the CAF over the “unfair [decision] that was announced at a late stage of the competition, the club will play in the CAF Champions League final no matter where the game is held,” a statement read on the club’s website.

Ahly have also said that they will proceed with their complaint to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS), requesting the game be held in a neutral venue to ensure justice between the competitors.

The club will also appeal to FIFA regarding the release of its international players for the June international break that will witness the first two rounds of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.

The winners of the two previous editions of the CAF Champions League have reached the final after smashing Algeria’s ES Setif 6-2 on aggregate, meanwhile Wydad qualified for the final after defeating Angola’s Petro Atletico 4-2 on aggregate.

The CAF also confirmed that the final of the Confederation Cup will be played on Friday 20 May at Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Nigeria.
