The Public prosecution also accused the man of possessing and carrying cold weapons without a permit or professional reasons.

According to the prosecution, on 13 May the victim and her daughter filed a complaint to the prosecution against her husband accusing him of assault that caused injuries all over her body after attacking her with a wooden slab and a knife over a family dispute.

Following the complaint, the prosecution viewed a short video clip that went viral on social media last week in Egypt depicting the accused’s latest assault on the victim.

The viral video resulted in the launch of a social media campaign calling for the arrest of the husband, with Magdy’s name trending for a couple of days in Egypt.

A mother of three, Magdy, who is in her 30s, told the media that she suffered from her husband’s violence for a long time and filed four complaints against him at the police station. She also said that she received help from the National Council For woman and the Ministry of Social Solidarity after the spread of her short video.

The prosecution added that it questioned the victim’s daughter, who confirmed that there were always disputes between her parents that reached their peak on the day of the assault.

Furthermore, the prosecution questioned ten witnesses from the husband’s family who witnessed the assault and said that they were alarmed by the screams of the couple’s daughter from their home and upon their arrival, they witnessed the husband as he was physically assaulting his wife.

The witnesses added that they grabbed the man and took from his hand the knife asserting that the couple had frequent disputes.

Upon further investigations, the prosecution found out that the husband has a criminal record and was previously accused in a number of cases.

The medical examination of the victim stated that she had a cut on her head and bruises on different parts of her body.

Currently, the defendant is in pre-trail detention, according to the prosecution.
