Mosimane thanks Ahly, hopes to reunite in the future

South African coach Pitso Mosimane has issued a farewell letter confirming his departure from Ahly by mutual consent on Monday, thanking the board for trusting him over the last period.

“We have reached a mutual agreement to part ways. Therefore, I am sad to announce that I, together with my technical team, Kabelo Rangoaga, Musi Matlaba and Kyle Solomon will be leaving Al-Ahly SC with immediate effect,” a statement signed by Mosimane and published by his agency MT Sports Marketing & Management read.

The 57-year-old coach did not provide any reasons behind the decision, but spoke about his journey with Ahly over 20 months starting in October 2020 and how they were able to meet expectations.

“I would like to thank Captain Bebo immensely for placing his trust and belief in me and my South African team,” Mosimane said.

“Being the coach of the biggest club on the continent has been a dream of mine that has come true and I will forever be grateful.”

Mosimane won a host of titles with Ahly, including back-to-back Champions League titles in 2020 and 2021 and two Club World Cup bronze medals in 2021 and 2022.

The former South Africa and Sundowns coach, who had just renewed his contract in March until 2024, came under fierce criticism recently after a string of disappointing performances on the domestic level and the loss in the final of the African Champions League.

His relationship with the management was reportedly strained following his latest statements to South African media, where he criticised some of the former club's players for criticising him and also saying that the club's decisions are influenced by reactions on social media.

However, he thanked the board and the fans at the end of the letter.

“I am truly humbled and hope we cross path again and reunite Inshallah,” he concluded.

Ahly announced that his assistant Samy Komsan will be the caretaker coach until a foreign manager is hired.
