Swimming: Farida Osman finishes 4th at the final of 50m fly in World Champs, sets new African record

The Egyptian swimmer Farida Osman finished in fourth place in the final of the 50m fly women’s event at the 19th World Championships Budapest 2022, achieving a new African Record with 25.38s.

She beat her previous record of 25.39s set in 2017. 

Unfortunately, Farida was only 0.06s behind China’s Yufei Zhang who achieved third place clinching the bronze medal.

Sarah Sjoestroem of Sweden won the gold medal after finishing the race in 24.95s.

Osman has already won two World Champs bronze medals in the 50m butterfly, her favourite discipline, in Budapest 2017 and Korea 2019.

On Sunday, she broke the 100m butterfly African record with a time of 57.66 seconds to finish seventh in the overall ranking.

She eclipsed the record set by South Africa's Erin Gallagher in 2019 with 57.67 seconds. 

She was supposed to compete in the 50m freestyle on Friday, but she withdrew.
