“We told Bencharki that we need to renew his contract in a meeting on Sunday, but he confirmed that he wants to move to another country,” Mortada Mansour said in a video posted on his YouTube channel.
“Bencharki was supposed to sign his new contract before 31 December of last year with the former normalisation committee, and we took over the club on 10 March,” he added.
“We won’t beg Bencharki to stay, we will thank him for the time he has spent with us because he made the fans happy, and we will throw him a farewell party.”
The current football season in Egypt is expected to end on 30 August, but Tuesday’s match between Zamalek and Ceramica Cleopatra might be the last one for Bencharki, who might want to end his season early to get a break and negotiate his future.
The 27-year-old Moroccan, who joined the Whites in 2019 from Saudi Arabia’s Al-Hilal, played 104 games for Zamalek, scoring 39 goals and providing 26 assists.
He has been instrumental in the 2020/21 triumphant League campaign, which was Zamalek’s first league title since 2015, scoring 15 goals and providing 7 assists in 30 games. He also won the 2020 CAF Super and 2019 Egypt Cup with the Whites.
