In a phone call on Tuesday, the president extended the condolences of the Egyptian government and people to Jordan over the incident’s victims, wishing the injured a speedy recovery, a statement by Presidential Spokesman Bassam Rady said.
The Jordanian king expressed his appreciation for the Egyptian president's sincere fraternal feelings, stressing the strong historical relations between Egypt and Jordan, the statement noted.
President El-Sisi is currently in a two-day visit to Bahrain as part of his Gulf tour.
On Monday, the Egyptian foreign ministry also extended Egypt’s official condolences to Jordan in a press release, adding that Egypt stands in solidarity with the government and people of Jordan after this tragedy
Thirteen people were reportedly killed and more than 250 injured after a large tank fell from a crane on a moored vessel causing a violent explosion of yellow-coloured gas.
Footage on state-owned Al-Mamlaka TV showed the large cylinder, which is said to have been carrying about 30 tons of gas, plunging from a crane on a moored vessel, causing a violent release of the gas cloud.
Jordan's Aqaba port is the country's only marine terminal and a major transit point for a vast portion of its imports and exports.
Jordan on Tuesday promised an investigation into the deadly explosion.
King Abdullah II called for providing "transparent explanations to the public" after investigations conclude, the palace said in a statement.
He also ordered identifying shortcomings and holding those responsible to account by law, the statement added.
