In statements to MBC Misr’s El-Hekaya on Friday, Abdel-Ghaffar stated that 97% of the COVID-19 cases in Egypt are of the Omicron variant.
However, he said that despite the current rise of cases in Egypt, most infections in Egypt do not require isolation at hospitals, adding that the isolation period at home takes between five to seven days.
He also stated that currently there is a daily average of 38 cases of coronavirus recorded in the country, reiterating that there was no current need for isolation hospitals in the country.
Furthermore, Abdel-Ghaffar said that fatality rates remain steady and that average daily COVID-19 deaths in Egypt range from four to five cases.
He also revealed that the fourth coronavirus vaccine dose or second booster shot are now available without pre-registration for those who received three vaccine shots.
He explained that anyone over the age of 65 and those who suffer from any chronic illnesses may now get their booster shots three months after receiving their third vaccine shot.
