Ahly new Portuguese coach Ricardo Soares said that he "feels worried" but his team’s hope to win the league title is still alive despite losing 0-2 to Pyramids FC in the Egyptian Premier League on Saturday,

“We have to recalculate as the league title is still in play and we still have hope to win the trophy,” Soares said.

“Pyramids FC were the better side during the game as they were faster and they deserve to win the game,” Soares told the post-game press conference.

Ahly's loss yesterday left the Red Devils in third place on 48 points, 9 points behind leader Zamalek (57 pts) and 6 points behind second place Pyramids (54 pts), but with two matches in hand on the duo.

Earlier on Saturday, Zamalek, the defending champions, beat Ghazl El-Mahalla 2-0.

Meanwhile, with 8 games left on the season, Pyramids' win over Ahly revived their hope to win the Egyptian Premier League for the very first time in their four year history in the league and made up for a disappointing 2-2 draw with Talae El-Geish last week.

The Red Devils, who failed to build on their big 4-0 win against Future FC last week, created only two goal-scoring chances in the entire game.

“Ahly’s character disappeared during the game as we only lost two scoring chances,” the Ahly coach added.

The 47-year-old Soares took the helm at Ahly in June following the sudden departure of South African coach Pitso Mosimane.

Ahly will face a tough mission when they take on arch-rivals Zamalek in Egypt Cup 2020/2021 final game on Thursday.

“I am worried and we have to work hard so that the players’ wounds could recover after the defeat to Pyramids FC to prepare them for the Cairo derby clash,” Soares added.
