The globally leading Swedish audio streaming platform Spotify  produced a mini documentary telling the story of Loka and his team in their journey to mainstream popularity after over a decade of making music in the shadows.

“I started feeling there was more responsibility; not just on me, but the people around me. Because, suddenly you find out that there are a million people listening to you,” Loka told Spotify in a press release issued on Monday to announce a wide promotional campaign for him across the region.

After releasing over 38 tracks, Loka has suddenly become viral in recent months across many platforms thanks to the success of his hit Matkhafeesh Yamma, which featured producer Ouzzy.

“The impact of Matkhafeesh Yamma can be witnessed on Spotify, where the hit song continues to captivate audiences from North Africa to Saudi Arabia and is the most-streamed Egyptian song outside of Egypt, with 73% of its streams coming from non-Egyptian markets,” Spotify explained.

“When you listen to my music, it will make you dance and fill you with joy. It will send you good vibes. That’s what I try hard to do. But if you listen deeply and want to know more about me, you’ll hear everything that has to do with me; all my personal stories and everything that’s happening in my life. All the small intimate details that I cannot talk about face to face are in my music,” Loka added.

Loka is the fifth MENA artist to be boosted by Spotify’s RADAR ARABIA Programme after Xriss Jor, Bader Alshuaibi, Elyanna, and Issam Al-Najjar.

Launched in 2020, RADAR is designed to help emerging artists reach the next stage of their careers and strengthen their connection to listeners.

“The authenticity of Loka’s lyrics makes it easy for any fan — whether in Morocco or Tunisia — to connect with him. His inclusion in RADAR will boost the discovery of his music around the globe,” said Spotify’s Head of Artist and Label Partnerships in MENA Wissam Khodur.

Loka’s latest single, Mehtar, is currently available on Spotify and other platforms, as well as his latest EP Setta Bel Hob.
