Cairo Int'l Film Festival to honour director Kamla Abouzekri

Egyptian director Kamla Abouzekri will receive the Faten Hamama Award of Excellence at the upcoming Cairo International Film Festival's (CIFF) 44th edition, taking place on 13-22 November.

The award is in recognition of Abouzekri’s iconic works that had an indelible influence on the filmmaking industry throughout her long-standing career, CIFF President Hussein Fahmy said on Saturday.

Abouzekri said she is excited about the award, thanking the board for choosing her among this round's honorees.

Abouzekri’s filmography include Sana Oula Nasb, her debut in 2004, Malek we Ketaba (2005), A’n El-Eshq wel Hawa (2006), Wahed Sefr (2009), 18 Youm (2011), and Youm Lel Setat (2016).

She has also made an impact with her TV works that include 2004’s sitcom 6 Medan El-Tahrir, Zat (2013), Segn El-Nesa (2014), Wahet El-Ghoroub (2017), B-100 Wesh (2020), and Betlou El-Rouh in Ramadan 2022.

The CIFF is one of the oldest festivals in the Arab world and Africa. It is the only festival in the region classified in the A category by the International Federation of Film Producers Associations.
