Fouad's remarks came during the “The Launch of Sustainability” session, held by Narrative Summit – a PR conferences-organising platform -- as Egypt braces to host the annual climate event in Sharm El-Sheikh from 7 to 18 November.

She added that the transformation to a green city will be realised through cooperation with the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities to change the operation systems at all Sharm El-Sheikh hotels to depend on solar energy.

The solid waste management system is being developed in the city, including changing collecting, transferring, and recycling methods, she added, noting that the plans include boosting dependency on renewable resources at Sharm El-Sheikh International Airport and International Convention Centre.

Egypt is also seeking to convert transportation modes in the city to run on natural gas or electricity, Fouad said. 

Climate change, she added, is the result of excessive harmful emissions from human activities, including in the industry, waste, and power plants. The emissions cause global warming, the minister noted.

The rise of the Earth's temperature results in melting the ice and the subsequent rise of sea levels, she stated. These phenomena cause changes unseen before, such as storms, floods, wildfires, hurricanes and severe heat waves.

Egypt is launching various environmentally-friendly projects that comply with its National Climate Change Strategy 2050, which was introduced in COP26 in Glasgow, including reducing emissions in various sectors.
