The Egyptian Football Association (EFA) announced earlier this week that Clattenburg will be in charge of a committee tasked with developing Egyptian referees.

"My job and role is to improve the refereeing and the VAR," Clattenburg told the EFA official website on Wednesday.

"My job is to make them better and to make the football also better."

Clattenburg said that, after watching all Egyptian league games in the last month, he realised that the referee's relationship with the VAR needs to be improved.

Cairo giants Ahly have recently lodged several complaints against referees, saying they were denied a couple of legitimate goals in two crucial Egyptian Premier League clashes.

The club demanded the sacking of the refereeing committee after having a goal controversially disallowed for offside following a VAR review in their 0-0 draw with Pharco earlier this month.

"I watched the league games during the past month and the performance of the referees was very good," Clattenburg added.

"But the relation between the referee and the VAR should be improved. Sometimes this is breaking down or it took so long we have to improve this. It is a problem around the world. It is not just in Egypt."

"We will work hard individually and with group because I will not accept mistakes or poor performances.

"Egypt is a leading country in the continent and we have to show that we have the best referees in Africa and my job is to help to be the best."
