Preview: Zamalek face Pharco FC with an eye on the league title

Zamalek will face Pharco FC on Friday on the 31st matchday of the Egyptian Premier League, boosted by the return of veteran defender Mahmoud ‘El-Wensh’ Hamdi to the Whites' squad.

The White Knights are edging closer to the title, as they have collected 72 points with four matches left in the league, seven points above second placed Pyramids FC. On the other hand, Pharco FC are in eighth place with 40 points.

They will try to keep their undefeated run, as they did not lose in any of the last 11 league matches.

The 27-year-old defender El-Wensh was absent from the Whites’ game against Ismaily in the round of 16 of the Egypt Cup, which ended with Zamalek’s 1-0 victory, and the squad list did not include Tunisian full-back Hamza Mathlouthi.

Portuguese coach Jesualdo Ferreira named 22 players for the Pharco FC match, and the squad list came as follows:

Goalkeepers: Mohamed Awad, El-Sayed Ateya, Mohamed Nadim.

Defenders: Mahmoud Alaa, Mohamed Abdel-Ghani, Mahmoud ‘El-Wensh’ Hamdi, Hossam Abdel-Meguid, Abdallah Gomaa, Ahmed Fatouh, Mohamed Abdel-Shafi, Hazem Emam.

Midfielders: Emam Ashour, Mohamed ‘Rouqa’ Ashraf, Youssef ‘Obama’ Ibrahim, Ayman Hefni, Ahmed ‘Zizo’ El-Sayed, Youssef Osama, Seif Farouk Gaafar, Mahomud ‘Shikabala’ Abdel Razik.

Strikers: Seif Abdallah, Omar El-Saied, Seifeddine Jaziri.
