Together with his ensemble, El-Tohamy will introduce a selection from his classic repertoire that combines memorised traditional Sufi chants and poems.
Born in Assiut in 1949, El-Tohamy studied at Al-Azhar schools and has performed in big Islamic Mowlid events over the past several decades, building fame in Egypt as well across Arab and Islamic countries.
His recordings are some of the country’s most-listened-to music, especially among fans in Upper Egypt.
The father of renowned chanter Mahmoud El-Tohamy, Yassin has performed across the globe including England, France and India.
The 30th edition of the festival, which is running 14-31 August, is hosting concerts for many renowned Egyptian and Arab World star singers like Hany Shaker, Ali El-Haggar, Nawal El-Zoghbi, Mohamed Mohsen, Nouran Abutaleb, Tania Saleh, Nesma Mahgoub, Lena Chamamyan, as well as bands like Black Theama, and Wust El-Balad.
Yassin El-Tohamy’s performance will follow a concert for Mawaeel Band featuring Sayed Imam and Abdel-Rahman Balala.
