Zamalek's 10-match winning streak came to an end but the draw did not dampen a celebratory mood at Cairo's International stadium as the jubilant players paraded the league trophy following the final whistle.
Pyramids' 1-0 loss to Future FC on Monday gave Zamalek an unassailable seven-point lead with only two rounds remaining as the team made it back-to-back league triumphs for the first time since 2004.
Zamalek's players entered the pitch before kick-off pulling on boxing gloves, making fun of a report carried by one of Egypt's biggest newspapers that said a couple of players had punched each other during a training session in July.
Ittihad surprisingly took the game to the hosts in the early stages and were further emboldened when young defender Hossam Abdel-Maguid, one of Zamalek's best performers this season, was sent off on 18 minutes for a last-man foul on winger Ibrahim Hassan.
Angolan striker Mabululu was foiled by Zamalek keeper Mohamed Awad in a one-on-one but the latter was at fault when Hassan gave Ittihad a deserved lead with a spectacular strike just before halftime.
Hassan caught Awad out of position with a superb long ball from his own half that nestled into the net past the retreating shot-stopper.
Despite their numerical disadvantage, Zamalek pushed forward in a bid to level the score in the second half and were rewarded when central defender Mahmoud El-Wensh rose between two markers to head home a trademark inviting cross from winger Ahmed Zizo with 15 minutes remaining.
Ittihad were dangerous on the break but Zamalek held on to secure a share of spoils before turning on the celebration mode after the final whistle.
