Ahly close gap on second-placed Pyramids with 2-0 win over Enppi

Substitutes Luis Miquissone and Mohamed Mahmoud came off the bench to score two late goals and give Ahly a 2-0 win over Enppi as they closed to within one point of second-placed Pyramids FC in the Egyptian Premier League on Wednesday.

Ahly needed to arrest a slump in form that saw them settle for two successive 0-0 draws with Eastern Company and Ismaily and they produced a fine second-half display against Enppi to claim all three points and keep a clean sheet for the 10th successive game.

Portuguese coach Ricardo Soares remains under pressure, with widespread reports suggesting that he would be sacked after the end of the season despite arriving just two months ago.

He refused to take questions during the post-match news conference, simply saying that Ahly would "win all titles" next season.

Ahly have 67 points, one behind Pyramids with just two matches remaining. Zamalek were crowned champions for a second straight season earlier this week.

Soares once again fielded a youthful-looking side but they struggled in the first half, with Enppi going close on at least two occasions.

Enppi could have also taken the lead when they were awarded a penalty on 69 minutes after Nigerian striker John Ebuka was tripped, only for winger Mostafa Shalabi, who is reportedly an Ahly target, to blast his effort against the bar.

Ahly winger Ahmed Abdel-Kader missed a sitter shortly afterwards but Mozambican winger Miquissone, who is also expected to leave at the end of the season after failing to prove his worth, made amends on 71 minutes.

He rifled home a powerful shot from inside the area after fellow substitute Salah Mohsen slipped a pass into his path.

Ahly's third-choice keeper Mostafa Shobeir produced some fine saves to keep Enppi at bay before central midfielder Mohamed Mahmoud ensured the win just before the end.

He scored his first goal for the club when he slotted home on the rebound after Enppi's keeper parried a tame shot into his path.
