Egypt FM Shoukry discusses preparations for COP27 with Danish climate minister

Sameh Shoukry, Egypt's foreign minister and president designate of the 27th session of the UN Climate Change Conference (COP27), conferred on Thursday in Egypt with Danish Minister of Climate and Energy and Public Utilities Dan Jannik Jørgensen on climate action and ongoing preparations for the conference.

The conference is set to be held in the Egyptian Red Sea resort city of Sharm El-Sheikh 6-18 November.

Foreign Ministry Spokesman Ahmed Hafez said Shoukry said the Danish minister's visit to Egypt lends support to the Egyptian presidency of COP27 and reflects the country’s commitment towards enhancing climate action.

The Egyptian diplomat also praised Denmark's hosting of the ministerial meeting on the implementation of climate pledges in May, noting that this meeting provided an opportunity for Egypt, as head of COP27, to be clearly briefed on all aspects related to climate issues, added the spokesman.

The spokesman also noted that the meeting covered Egypt's view of the various issues on the conference agenda, especially the alleviation of the negative impacts of climate change, as well as the funding of climate action to produce tangible results.
