Ahram Online has highlighted a selection of do-not-miss cultural events for this week (31 August- 6 September) in Cairo and Alexandria.

Omar Khairat to close 30th Citadel Festival for Music and Singing
Citadel of Salah Al-Din
Wednesday 31 August at 8pm
Enjoy some of Omar Khairat’s evergreen tunes like Heya Di El-Hayah, Fi Hawid El-Leil, Arabian Rhapsody, Fiha Haga Helaw, Eadam Mayet, El-Khawaga Abdel-Kader, Giran El-Hana, Mafia, Saber, Arfa, Qadeyet Am Ahmed, Khali Balak Men Aklak and other hits of classic TV and film themes.
The show will follow a performance by Cello Group State of Harmony.

The 29th Cairo International Festival for Experimental Theatre
Runs from 1 to 8 September
At various theatres in Cairo including Cairo Opera House, National Theatre, Gomhoreya Theatre, Falaki Theatre, Hanager Art Center and Cairo Puppet Theatre.

Opening Thursday: Dozens of long and short experimental theatre performances from various countries will be competing and staging during the important event, which also involves a number of seminars and workshops.

Al-Aref and Thaneya Wahda on WATCHIT
Days after their release, two 2021 films have quickly made it to the top of the most streamed content on streaming platform WATCHIT: Al-Aref and Thaneya Wahda.
Directed by Ahmad Alaa Aldeeb and written by Mohamed Sayed Bashir, the cybercrime action hit Al-Aref (The Knower) stars Ahmad Ezz, Ahmad Fahmy, Mohamed Mamduh, Mostafa Khater, Mahmoud Hemeida, and Carmen Bsaibes.


Starring Dina El Sherbiny, Mostafa Khater, Bayoumi Fouad, Ola Roshdy, Ayman Alkaysouni and Fathy Abdel-Wahab, the comedy film Thaneya Wahda (One Second) is directed by Akram Farid and Mostafa Hamdy.

Friday 2 September at 8pm
Adopted and directed by Mohsen Rizk, the Arabic family musical, starring Marwa Abdel-Moniem, is based on the adventures of Walt Disney Animation Studios' Rapunzel.

Aziz Maraka in Cairo and Alexandria
Jordanian singer and songwriter Aziz Maraka is performing some of his well-known hits including Mafi Menik, Bethlawi, Meen Gallek and Ya Bay.

The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power to premiere on Prime Video
