“The board thanked Soares and his technical staff members for their huge effort with the team in the last period. For certain reasons, the contract was ended today amicably and we wish them the best of luck in the future,” read a statement on Ahly’s official website.

The 47-year old Soares, who took the helm at Ahly in early July after the sudden departure of South African coach Pitso Mosimane, failed to impress some Ahly fans after losing the league title to arch rivals Zamalek.

Under the guidance of Soares, Ahly played 17 games in all fronts; winning in nine, drawing in five and losing in three.

Shortly after Soares took charge, the Reds also lost the 2021 Cup title to rivals Zamalek.

Ahly also finished out of top two of the Premier league for the first time in 30 years, and losing their much coveted crown to arch rivals Zamalek for the second year in a row.ending the doemstic competition in the third place with 70 points.

However, some fans believe Soares was dealt a bad hand since the club management decided to send most of the starters home to rest after three back-to-back gruesome seasons, leaving him with youth subs.
