Aly Abdel-Khalek died at the Maadi Military Hospital after a long battle with cancer. His funeral will be held on Saturday at Al-Sayeda Nafisa Mosque.
Many cultural and artistic entities and personas mourned the departure of the artist, including the Cinematic Syndicate and the Egyptian Film Critics Association.
Born on 9 June 1944, Aly Abdel-Khalek graduated from the Higher Institute of Cinema in 1966 and worked as an assistant director for years before becoming a director.
The multi-awarded filmmaker has directed a number of important films, collaborating with the many of the country’s first-row casts and crew during his long career that deputed powerfully with A Song on the Passage in 1972.
His pairing with writer Mahmoud Abu Zeid created some of his most remarkable works like El-Aar (1982), El-Keif (1985), Gary El Wohosh (1987) and El-Beida Wel-Hagar (1990).
His memorable collection also includes Edam Mayet (1985), Shader El-Samak (1986), El-Gentle (1996), El-Nems (2000), Bono Bono (2000), Zaza (2006) and many others.
The prominent filmmaker also wrote a few films like Arbaa Fi Muhimma Rasmiya (1987) and Wa Daa Hobbi Honak (1982) as well as directing some TV series late in his career like Awlad Azzam (2007) and Al-Bawaba Al-Thaneya (2009).
