According to Egypt’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Shoukry and Bouzar met Monday to discuss cooperation priorities between Egypt and UNDP that would support the Egyptian economy.
The two officials reviewed the current cooperation and priorities between Egypt and UNDP, especially following the adoption of the UNDP’s 2023-2027 Country Programme Document (CPD) for Egypt earlier in September.
From his side, Shoukry lauded the various fields of cooperation between Egypt’s different ministries and the UNDP.
Shoukry also reviewed Egypt’s preparations and objectives for COP27, expressing his appreciation for the role of the UNDP in providing the needed funding to support the Egyptian presidency of this year’s conference.
The conference is set to be held 6-18 November in the Egyptian Red Sea resort city of Sharm El-Sheikh.
Shoukry stated that Egypt is going to use its presidency to focus on the increased challenges to Africa and other developing countries posed by global crises.
He pointed to the fact that these crises have already led to an increase in the prices of energy and food, which will hinder the efforts of developing countries to reach the UN sustainable development goals (SDGs).
The two officials also discussed the Egyptian National Climate Change Strategy (NCCS) which Bouzar lauded, saying that the UNDP will work on providing all measures necessary for future implementation.
Bouzar also praised the success story of the Egyptian economy in recent years, adding that she hopes they will be reflected in the upcoming UNDP report.
Aside from her meeting with Shoukry, Bouzar also met with Yasmine Fouad, Egypt’s environment minister and ministerial coordinator and envoy for COP27, to discuss the latest preparations and collaboration for COP27, as well as biodiversity conservation and support for protected areas in Egypt.
Bouzar also met with Minister of Planning Hala El-Said to discuss policy support, youth engagement, climate finance and achieving both Egypt’s vision 2030 and SDGs.
Bouzar is currently in Cairo to participate in the Egypt-International Cooperation Forum (Egypt-ICF), and the Meeting of African Ministers of Economy, Finance and Environment, which is scheduled to kick off on Wednesday and last for three days.
