The all-women Lebanese dance troupe Mayyas have reached the finals of the 17th season of the popular entertainment show America’s Got Talent (AGT), and dedicated their performances on the global stages to "Lebanon, its people and the world."

Shortly before their number in the semifinals on Wednesday, Mayyas posted a note on their Instagram page telling followers: "Tonight we perform on the world’s biggest stage. We are dedicating this for Lebanon, its people and the whole wide world."

Their number in the semifinals, which featured them transforming into a giant, glittering tree, was described as "mesmerising" and "magical" by many in the entertainment press.

The 17th season America's Got Talent final is scheduled to take place on Tuesday and the winner will be announced the following day.

Mayyas's recent feat comes after the troupe was given a Golden Buzzer for a number in June by Sofia Vergara, the Colombian-American actress who sits on the the AGT jury.

Mayyas follows the artistic direction of choreographer Nadim Cherfan.

In a video screened before the June performance, one of the members of the troupe said that Cherfan "brought new style and technique of dancing to Lebanon."

Meanwhile, Cherfan explained in the video that "Lebanon is not a country where dancers, especially women dancers, can build a strong career on their art."

Despite that, another dancer noted, "the women in the troupe are given a free, safe and creative space to dance. We want to show the world that we are able to stand on our feet as really strong and powerful women."

In 2019, Mayyas were the winners in season six of Arabs Got Talent, an Arab World spinoff from the American show.

Mayyas also participated in Britain's Got Talent: The Champions in the same year.
