Catherine Ashton, the European Union's high representative for foreign affairs and security policy, will visit Cairo on Wednesday in her first diplomatic visit since President Mohamed Morsi was sworn in.
During her one-day visit, Ashton will hold talks with Morsi as well as the head of the Supreme Council of the Armed Forces Field Marshal Mohamed Tantawi and the Egyptian Foreign Minister Mohamed Kamel Amr.
Ashton is also expected to meet with a number of representatives from Egypt's civil society organisations.
This will be Ashton's second stay in post-Mubarak Egypt; she visited Cairo late in February last year, shortly after the 18-day uprising that ousted former president Hosni Mubarak.
