Wegz, Marwan Moussa, Ahmed Saad among Egyptian nominees for AFRIMA Awards

Egypt has been nominated for numerous awards at the International Executive Committee of the All Africa Music Awards (AFRIMA), which announced the official list of nominees for its 2022 edition on Wednesday.

Egyptian rapper Wegz has been nominated for five awards; Best Male Artist in Northern Africa, Song of the Year, Producer of the Year, Artist of the Year for ‘El-Bakht’, and Best Artist, Duo or Group in African Contemporary for ‘B3oda Ya Belady’.

Fellow rapper Marwan Moussa has been nominated for three awards: Best African Rapper/Lyricist, Best Artist, Duo or Group in African Hip-Hop, and Best Male Artist in Northern Africa for ‘Batal 3alam.’

Ahmed Saad, 3enba and Double Zuksh are competing for Best Africa Collaboration Award with ‘El-Melouk,’ which also earned Saad a nomination for Best Male Artist in Northern Africa.

Rapper Ali Loka is also competing for Best Male Artist in Northern Africa with ‘Matkhafesh Yamma’, while Ruby is nominated for Best Female Artist in Northern Africa with ‘Nemt Nenna’.

Cairokee’s Amir Eid is nominated for Best Artist, Duo or Group in African Rock for ‘Ana Negm’.

Disco Misr and Aziz Maraka are nominated for the Best African Band, Duo, Group Award for ‘Ahla Wahda,’ while Ahmed Basyoni and Hussein Gamal’s ‘ElHalawa Di’ earned them a nomination for Best Artist, Duo or Group in African RnB & Soul.

The AFRIMA jury selected a total of 382 nominations across 39 categories – from a record 9,067 entries – to represent all five regions in Africa as well as in the diaspora.

The public voting portal for the 2022 AFRIMA edition will be live on Sunday 25 September. The 2022 All Africa Music Awards will be held from 8 to 11 December in a country that will be unveiled later this month.

In partnership with the African Union Commission, AFRIMA is a youth-focused music platform that recognises and rewards the work and talents of African artists across generations.

Six editions of the awards ceremony have been held between 2014 and 2019 and 3,104 nominees have emerged in the 37 categories of the awards across the traditional and contemporary forms of African music.
