Egypt, India tackle boosting military and security cooperation

Egypt and India discussed on Monday means of boosting military and security cooperation, particularly with regard to cooperation in manufacturing, transferring, and localising technology, with the aim of making use of the capabilities and infrastructure available in the two countries.

This came during a meeting between Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi and Indian Minister of Defence Rajnath Singh, in the presence of Egyptian Minister of Defence and Military Production Mohamed Zaki.

President El-Sisi asserted Egypt's keenness to bolster cooperation with India in the military and defence fields, praising "the inextricable historical ties" between Cairo and New Delhi.

He also expressed Egypt's aspiration to activate the partnership with India in a way that suits both nations' capabilities, read a statement by Egyptian Presidential Spokesman Bassam Rady following the meeting.

Singh affirmed his country's keenness to strengthen ties with Egypt under the leadership of President El-Sisi and amid the current "comprehensive developmental leap" in the county.

The Indian defence minister hailed Egypt's pivotal role in combating the threat of terrorism, noting that this matter affects security and stability in Egypt and the region, according to Rady.

He said India looks forward to exchanging experiences with Egypt and consolidating the military and security aspect within the framework of cooperation between the two countries
